Symptoms of food allergy
Food allergies symptoms usually occur within minutes
after the person eats the offending food. For some the allergic reaction may be uncomfortable but not severe. For
others it can be terrifying and sometimes even life threatening.
Here is a list of common symptoms of food allergy:
Swelling of lips, face, throat, tongue and other parts of the
body
Difficulty breathing
Reduced blood
pressure
Dizziness,
fainting
Eyes redness and itching
Pain in ears or impaired hearing
Skin rashes, such as eczema and hives
Gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting,
diarrhoea or abdominal pain
Wheezing, Constant sneezing, nasal
congestion
Rapid
pulse
Asthmatic
attacks
Angioedema -rapid swelling beneath
the skin and if it occurs near the throat or nose, it can caused breathing difficulties when the airways
becomes constricted.
Anaphylaxis is a serious whole
body allergic reaction that is rapid in onset and will require immediate medical professional
attention.
It is considered as an emergency condition as it
may cause death. It is usually triggered by insect bites or stings, food allergies and drug allergies though
there are cases of people having an anaphylactic reaction without knowing the cause.
Symptoms of Anaphylaxis develop almost immediately
and quickly. They can occur in the form of abdominal pain, wheezing, anxiety, confusion, cough, and
diarrhoea, difficulty in breathing, weakness, fainting, itchiness, nausea, abnormal heart rhythm, skin
redness, slurred speech and swelling. Anaphylaxis is a severe condition and requires prompt attention. Any
delay can possibly lead to other complications like cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest and
shock.
